In August 2020, the Technology Association of Grantmakers (TAG) conducted a survey to better understand the technology environment, practices, and perceptions in philanthropy. With 233 foundations in North America and beyond responding, the analysis presented is the only comprehensive report on the current state of technology in philanthropy, which includes:
- The impact of COVID-19 on technology budgets, support for grantees and more
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion practices amongst technology teams
- Security breaches, protections, and practices
- Trends in tool selection across the broad range of application areas
- Staffing ratios and outsourcing trends
“I believe the entire field will find value in this report,” says Laura Goff, chair of the TAG Survey Committee and Vice President for Information Technology at the Marin Community Foundation. “Grantmaking organizations will get a good sense of the progress we have made in the last two years, but also of some areas where we still have significant challenges ahead.”
Not only for foundation staff, the State of Philanthropy Tech survey provides invaluable insight for data-driven decision-making throughout the philanthropic sector. “Beyond foundations, the service providers and vendors who partner with us will get a clearer sense of how they can help us move philanthropy forward,” says Laura Goff.
